For testing and developing power amplifiers I missed on decent equipment.

At the end of may 2020 a opportunity turned up when I discovered a auction on ebay for two TDK-Lambda Supplies of the type GENH60-12.5.

These are highly professional programmable 750W switchmode power supplies, that can supply up to 60V and 12.5A. The casings come in a 1/2-19" format, 1HU and roundabout 1/2m deep. So they fit perfectly into my new lab. The ADCs and DACs are 16Bit types, guaranteeing for high precision and resolution of set- and readout values.

Beeing system ATE supplies they are designed for running 24/7 in rack-mount and they come with a 5 year warranty. Two supplies can be connected in series mode and up to four in parallel. Via RJ45 connectors they can be programmed and run in master-slave mode. For remote drive a webserver is integrated. TDK also offers the remote control software Genesys for free.

Apart from a pair of massive screw connectors the GENH60-12.5 features a plug connector where the main outputs as well as sense outputs are situated. Quite loud fans provide for cooling by sucking in air at the front and blowing out air at the back. These are the only openings in the otherwise fully closed casing. This allows for easy stacking of multiple devices.

TDK lists the supplies since 2005 and they cost about 1.800€ nowadays. The 19" wide but otherwise identical GEN-series is relabeled by Keysight as N5700-series and they offer the GENH60-12.5 under the ident N5747A for roughly 2.500€.

It goes without saying that I got my GENHs for a much lower rate, for which one typically could only buy dodgy stuff from far-east.

Meanwhile a third GENH has landed. Now I´m waiting on a opportunity to make it a pack of four.
